Georgia Mascot Uga VI Passes Away In Savannah
Update 7.2.08 :: Video :: http://ugaphoto.alumni.uga.edu/multimedia/UGAVI/
ATHENS, Ga. --- Uga VI, the winningest mascot in the University of Georgia’s history, died on Friday evening from congestive heart failure in his hometown of Savannah, Ga., owner Frank W. “Sonny” Seiler announced.

“He was a good one,” Seiler said. “What can I say? He had a marvelous record. He was a very strong and healthy dog. He was the biggest of all the dogs, and he had the biggest heart. It just played out.”
Seiler noticed Uga VI was breathing heavily shortly after arriving home from work on Friday evening. He was taken to Dr. Stanley Lester, the family’s veterinarian, who consulted with Dr. Bruce Hollett at the University of Georgia’s College of Veterinary Medicine before Uga VI passed away.
“I noticed he had a little congestion in his... [Read More]

Wow, I didn't plan on not checking my email or updating my blog AT ALL for the past week, but when the vacation bug bites, it's hard! We went up to New Jersey for Greg's cousin's wedding and made little side trips to DC and Manhattan. Anyway, some highlights from the wedding!

Asheley and Dave got married at St. Peters Church in Point Pleasant, New Jersey and were received at the Spring Lake Bath & Tennis Club on the shore, a really beautiful venue overlooking the beach. Guests were welcomed to a cocktail hour outside with a couple of open bars, a specialty mojito cocktail, and passed hors d'oeuvres like mini Kobe beef sliders and coconut fried shrimp.

Hominy Grill chef wins James Beard Award! |

From Hominy Grill ::
Dear Friends,
At the recent James Beard Foundation Awards in New York, Robert won the prestigious award for Best Chef: Southeast. What a thrill! We’re still pinching ourselves!
We of course want to say a big thank you to our great staff – who make it happen every day – and to our wonderful customers. We are so grateful for your patronage and friendship.
We also wanted to share a recent post by Michael Bauer, restaurant critic and food & wine editor for the San Francisco Chronicle, who observed that many of the 2008 Beard awardees are from smaller chef-owned restaurants that are less about flash and more about good, honest food. Needless to say, this resonated deeply with us. From his post: "winning doesn't necessarily mean glitzy surroundings, high-profile names and chic locations; it's about how the people behind the stove translate their passion to diners." See full article: Small restaurants making a big splash.
Hope to see you... [Read More]

CONGRATULATIONS TO BACARDI MOJITO CHALLENGE VICTOR JOHN AQUINO
Boysenberry Lychee Mojito Leads to Third Victory for Coast Bartender John Aquino
CHARLESTON, SC, JULY 1st, 2008 - John Aquino, bartender of Coast Bar & Grill wowed taste buds at the fourth annual Bacardi Mojito Challenge with his Boysenberry Lychee Mojito, awarded the favorite at this year's event.

He is the man behind the specialty cocktails Coast has become known for. Locals favor the award winning Hawaiian Peach Mojito and the acclaimed Mango Mojito, featured in The New York Times.
His latest concoction can be sampled at Coast nightly, beginning at 5pm.
